DESIGN: The Balangay
Created by our first ancestors the Austronesians, a group of people who sailed the ocean and seas like wide open roads. The Balangay was used to explore rivers and coastlines of our newfound motherland. Within these boats early Filipinos worked together as a community in order to make their daring journey possible. This strong sense of togetherness took root at the core of Philippine culture, which is why we call a small community in the Philippines a Barangay today, named after the Balangay boats of our ancestors.
